Color Vowel FAST© is an self-paced introduction to the Color Vowel® Approach. FAST training entails completing four video-based modules and taking companion quizzes for each module that you complete at your own pace. Color Vowel Complete combines live training with asynchronous learning to immerse you in the use the Color Vowel® Approach and our pronunciation app, Blue Canoe. Color Vowel Complete Course Objectives

  • Develop your own phonological awareness and explore phonemic stress as the central organizing feature of comprehensible spoken English;
  • Discover how the human brain processes second language speech and why long-lasting pronunciation improvement requires the use multi-modal, brain-based instructional strategies;
  • Learn how to use the Color Vowel Chart as a visual organizer for words and phrases, providing learners with a powerful tool for pronunciation, vocabulary development, oral fluency, and speaking confidence;
  • Master essential Color Vowel® instructional techniques: modeling, kinesthetic signaling, categorization, acoustic flooding, anchoring, and rhythm practice;
  • Learn how to maximize the power of Blue Canoe® with your students to accelerate their pronunciation improvement.

Participation: Live Sessions and Asynchronous Modules

Each week’s session is delivered live/interactively and recorded for replay in case you cannot attend one or more of the live meetings. This course is designed as a synchronous (live) course but may be completed asynchronously (by watching recorded meetings) as long as you are prepared to keep up with the weekly recordings, participate in our asynchronous course chat, and submit all assignments in a timely manner. Each week’s assignment is due 48 before the next live meeting. Participants receive personalized feedback on each assignment from a Color Vowel Teacher Trainer.

Technology Requirements for this course

Color Vowel Basics is an online course. To get the most out of your experience, you will need:

  • a video-equipped computer (so that you, your instructor, and your classmates can see one another)
  • a mobile device for filming yourself (a smartphone or tablet)
  • a tripod (optional, but recommended)
  • a stable internet connection

We use Zoom software for our live meetings and Canvas as our course management system.

I’m not very comfortable with learning/teaching online. Will someone be able to help me with tech questions?

We are dedicated to all aspects of teaching and learning online, and that includes providing plenty of support before, during, and after any course you take with us. When you take Color Vowel courses, you automatically become part of our dedicated community of teachers and support staff. We will do our best to help you with whatever question arises.

I’m not currently teaching or tutoring. May I still take this course?

Yes! The technique practicum involves demonstrating the techniques taught in the Level 1 workshop and do not require a current classroom setting. This course is appropriate for those who are currently teaching as well as anyone who is preparing to teach — or new to teaching altogether!
